Obama's Broken Promises- And a Few He Shouldn't Have Kept

Barack Obama: "We're here to infuse the old Washington politics with a new sense of mission - to unite people around a common purpose. To rally Americans around a common destiny. We aren't just here to win an election. We are here to transform a nation."

Transformation, indeed. He is transforming himself and the nation too. No President has acted faster to do a complete reversal on campaign promises and positions during the campaign and act detrimentally to the country and the American people than Barack Hussein Obama has in the first two months of his presidency. Those who said that he was willing to say or do anything to win were quickly proven correct.

His popularity polls have been steadily falling on the correct impression that America is instinctively feeling of his incompetence, lack of direction, and move toward directly to creating a socialist state. Here are the Broken promises, and some we wish he wouldn't have kept.

He has reneged on his claim that he did not want to take American firearms. He has rushed to sign bills after promising not to. He now wants to tax health care benefits. He now likes earmark pork. He has dropped charges against Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, mastermind of the bombing of the USS Cole. He is closing Guantanamo. He is ending coercive interrogation techniques that work. He has shown himself to be soft on terrorism.

1. Obama, Sept. 9, 2008: I don't want any misunderstanding when you all go home, and you're talking to your buddies, and they say, "Aw, he wants to take my gun away." You've heard it here; I'm on television, so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people's lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away. ... There are some common-sense gun safety laws that I believe in. But I am not going to take your guns away. So if you want to find an excuse not to vote for me, don't use that one. ... It just ain't true.


Reality- On 02/25/09 Obama Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters, "As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons."

2. From Obama/Biden "Sunlight Before Signing":

"Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president,Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days"

Reality- The Obama stimulus bill was signed almost immediately day after being placed on his desk, giving no time for the public or legislators to read. he has done this with almost every bill sent to him.

3. From Obama/Biden "Sunlight Before Signing":

"Obama's Transparency and Integrity in Earmarks Act will shed light on all earmarks by disclosing the name of the legislator who asked for each earmark, along with a written justification, 72 hours before they can be approved by the full Senate."

Reality- 9,000 earmarks in his first "Stimulus" bill.

4. Barack Obama on Terrorism.

"After 9/11, our calling was to devise new strategies and build new alliances, to secure our homeland and safeguard our values, and to serve a just cause abroad," Barack said. "Just because the President misrepresents our enemies does not mean we do not have them. When I am President, we will wage the war that has to be won."


Reality- Dick Cheney, said "yes," when asked by CNN if the USA was less safe after Barack Obama's decisions to reverse George W. Bush's anti terrorism policies
He believed that the dismantled programs were necessary to be able to get intelligence that has headed off further attacks on the USA. He believes that Obama is making current choices that increases the chance of new attacks on the USA.

5. Obama is closing the Guantanamo terrorist detention center.

Reality- Where are the terrorists going to be sent, Chicago's inner city? Barney Frank's house? Bobby Rush's crib? Montana?
Many of those who have already been released have been found to have returned to the current battlefield fighting American soldiers.
Such is the case of Guantanamo releasee, Said Ali al-Shihri, who is now second in command of al-Qaida' in Yemen. He was Guantanamo prisoner number 372.
The consequences of Obama's capricious plan to close Guantanamo are frightening. More of this is on the table.

6. "Anybody detained by the Untied States, for now, is going to be ... any interrogations taking place are going to have to abide by the Army Field Manua.

Any inhumane treatment—including abusive practices, torture, or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment as defined in US law, including the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005—is prohibited and all instances of such treatment will be reported immediately in accordance with paragraph 5-69 thru 5-72. Beyond being impermissible, these unlawful and unauthorized forms of treatment are unproductive because they may yield unreliable results, damage subsequent collection efforts, and result in extremely negative consequences at national and international levels. Review by the servicing SJA is required prior to using separation. Each interrogation plan must include specific safeguards to be followed: limits on duration, interval between applications, and termination criteria. Medical personnel will be available to respond in the event a medical emergency occurs."

Reality- Obama is ending "Waterboarding" which has proved effective in preventing other attacks such as the planned airborne attack from Heathrow Airport by terrorists. He has ordered that the field manual on interrogation be followed. This manual can be easily gamed by those being questioned.

7. Barack Obama will not refer to terrorist killers and those who support them directly as "Enemy Combatants."

Reality- A murdering thug is still a murdering thug no matter what he is called by Obama. But referring to them simply as "detainees" will up the french opinion of us.

8. Barack Obama on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 in in a television ad "John McCain's health care plan "leaves you on your own to pay McCain’s health insurance tax."

Reality- Obama is now open to taxing your health care benefits, contrary to his campaign sloganing. It will raise over 200 billion. He will leave the dirty work to Congress to give him political cover.

9. He dropped charges against Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, held at Gitmo, and the mastermind of the USS Cole bombing in Yemen. How does this make us safer against terrorism?

10. Obama blasted John McCain when he said, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." Our economy is now worse than before the inauguration. Yet, Barack Hussein Obama and Joe Biden both now say, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." Huh?
